Competitive Athletics

At St. Barbara School we believe that athletics are an important part of a child’s physical, mental and moral development. Athletics help with a child’s physical fitness and discipline; student athletes learn to work together with others to achieve a common goal. Good sportsmanship, including respect for officials, coaches, and other athletes, are emphasized over winning. This remains consistent with the Catholic values that are taught across all school disciplines.

League Teams               5th - 8th Grade

Students are offered opportunities to play girls’ and boys’ basketball, volleyball, cross-country and track. All sports teams at St. Barbara are walk on teams; any student who wants to play, will play.  Our walk-on team structure is something that distinguishes St. Barbara School from local public schools, giving students the opportunity to try many different types of sports.  At other schools, students try out to make a team that has a limited number of spots available.  On those occasions when not enough students are interested in playing a sport at a particular grade level, St. Barbara School combines athletes with another local Catholic school, creating one, united team.

The Catholic leagues in which St. Barbara School participates are very competitive in that they do not have non-competition rules.
