Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts
Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Upcoming Activities
DesPlaines Valley Council will be hosting the National Youth Leadership Training program at Adventure Camp in Rochelle, IL, the week of June 10th – 15th. This program is open to all Boy Scout Troop and Venturing Crew members. It is a great opportunity for our youth to learn leadership skills that they can apply not only in Scouting, but in school and everyday life.
The annual conference is an exciting six day outdoor adventure and provides the participants with the tools to be successful leaders. The conference is coordinated by Course Coordinator, Buzz Lapcewich, Course Director, Greg Novak, and Assistant Course Director, Bob Mervine, who have all been trained and certified at an NYLT Course Director’s Conference.
The following is from the council website and includes multiple links to describe the program. If you have any questions and are thinking of applying, please let Mr. Slehofer, Leake, or Mr. Reynolds know so that we can help prepare you for what is needed. http://www.bsa-dpvc.org/Training/nylt.php
Girl Scouts
St. Barbara School offers a Girl Scout program for girls in grades Kindergarten through 12. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together.
The Girl Scout program encourages girls to discover themselves, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. This is done within an all-girl environment in which girls take the lead, and learn by doing. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.
The Girl Scout program at St. Barbara is organized as follows:
•Girl Scout Daisy, grades K-1
•Girl Scout Brownie, grades 2-3
•Girl Scout Junior, grades 4-5
•Girl Scout Cadette, grades 6-8
•Girl Scout Senior, grades 9-10
•Girl Scout Ambassador, grades 11-12
The St. Barbara School Girl Scout Coordinator is Marge Smith. Please call 708-485-0806 for additional information.
